A mixed finite element algorithm for dynamics contact/impact problem was proposed, based on which program package dealing with gear transient contact/impact process was devised. A two dimensional single-tooth impact model with Stribeck friction model was studied by the designed program. The variation regularities of the nodal normal contact force, friction force and the resultant force as well as impact time under different initial impact velocities were investigated. Meanwhile, the results under Stribeck friction condition were compared with those from Coulomb friction case. The preliminary validation was performed through comparison of the resultant normal contact force by virtue of ABAQUS in Coulomb situation. The contrast proves the validity of the developed program.
